Dr. Hugh Black graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama, where he served as Chief Resident. He continued his education by completing his fellowship at the UNC Chapel Hill Division of Pediatric Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine.  

Dr. Black is board certified in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine and has been treating patients with asthma, allergies and pediatric pulmonary diseases in Charlotte since 1997. His past positions include President of the Charlotte Pediatric Society, President of the Mecklenburg County Asthma Coalition, Co-Director of the Western Carolinas Cystic Fibrosis Center, Co-Director of the Sleep Well Kids pediatric sleep medicine clinic, Adjunct Teaching Professor for UNC-CH, and Principal Investigator of numerous clinical trials investigating asthma, allergy, and cystic fibrosis. 

Dr. Black takes great pleasure in treating patients with asthma, allergies, and a wide variety of pediatric pulmonary diseases. In his spare time, he enjoys all outdoor activities, especially hiking and gardening.
